Pirate costumes

I have four children now, 2,4,6 and 8 and both my husband and myself would like to start a family game night so that all are equally involved as far as possible.. We don’t have the cash for games at this moment and I do not know that all my kids will be interested in playing a game. I thought of musical chairs and Hide & Seek.

Another idea we had was to set up a game around fancy dress costumes eg pirate costumes. The immediate attractionl would be the popularity of the Johnny Depp pirate Movies, which my kids have seen many times and would definitley warm to.

The next step is take a look through a book of games and change one to best fit the pirates of the seven seas type of story line.
Hopefully this shouldn’t be too difficult when you think of the range of characters covered, including Bluebeard, the bucaneeers etc.

The Guardian newspaper has many useful resources for all family matters. There is great in depth suggestions to do with children.
I would strongly recommend you take a peek and book mark it for future visits.

Here is a game I picked up recently and it was good fun.
Place a tub of water on your floor and add in 3 or 4 bobbing apples. Now the fun part. Without using our hands duck into the apples and try to lift one clear out of the water using only your teeth. The best way to make it into competition is to set a time for all those who succeed and the one who does it fastest is the winner.
If you wear dentures then forget this game! It’s not for you.
A final twist to make it even more interesting is to blindfold the players.
